Adrenaline – The Stress Hormone

A few weeks ago I was in Colorado fine tuning some nutritional testing approaches which have been very beneficial for patients. People’s needs are so individualized it can take some detective work to develop the most suitable program for them, but that’s what we’re here for—to give you the best recommendations to achieve your health goals and help you feel your best.

One of the focuses of the workshop I attended was discussing the underlying reason for many people’s health problems—namely chronic adrenaline dominance. In today’s world most people are buzzing around in a low-grade state of “fight or flight”—a state that involves the production of adrenaline. Adrenaline is a stress hormone that has the ability to dysregulate sleep, blood sugars, hormones, digestion, and essentially every other system in the body. A key component to healing is to shift the body out of fight or flight so it can regulate itself, repair and heal. There are some key nutrients that can help this process, along with clearing psychological and emotional stressors with homeopathy and energetic balancing techniques as well as addressing lifestyle habits.

3 Simple Adrenaline Fixes
1. Epsom salt baths. A very relaxing way to mildly increase magnesium and sulphur stores in the body. Try 500g of epsom salts per soak.
2. Breathing. A simple way to calm your nervous system and quiet your mind is the 4-4-8 breath. Breathe in for a count of 4, hold for a count of 4, breath out for a count of 8. Repeat 3 – 10 times.
3. Unplug and get into nature. Leave the device at home and get into nature in some form even it means just sitting next to a tree or on the grass. Forget about your to-do list and let yourself take a mini “vacation”.
