For Pain Relief and Whole Body Health.
Fascia is a connective tissue in the body that spreads uninterrupted, throughout every structure. It is like a web that connects your bones, joints, and muscles to your organs, nerves, skin, and arteries. Every living tissue is surrounded and connected with this tissue.
Many osteopathic techniques specifically address imbalances within the fascia. They are gentle, hands-on manipulations that restore movement and flexibility to the structures of the body. Other techniques help restore joint movement and fluid movement throughout your body.
Movement is essential for all of life and your body depends upon it. When a tissue gets contracted, whether it is in your ankle or thyroid gland, pain occurs and physiological functioning is reduced. Because the whole body is connected by this web of tissue, a tension or pain in your shoulder may actually be coming from a more dominant tension in your liver. You may not have pain in your liver, but it may be the source of your shoulder problem.
All types of pain conditions and chronic problems can be treated effectively with osteopathic techniques, as well as enhanced overall health.
Osteopathy is a field of medicine that uses manual therapies to restore motion and function to the body’s structures. In the United States, osteopaths are trained and licensed as medical doctors. In Canada, osteopathy is beginning to emerge as a distinct healing profession, much like chiropractic, massage therapy, and physiotherapy. Many of these health care professionals are trained in osteopathic techniques and use them within their scope of practice. (Ryan is not an osteopath but has extensive training in osteopathic therapies.)
